Q: This morning I started taking Tricor instead of Lopid, should I be getting dizzy so soon?
I feel a little more light headed today. Could one dose of Tricor make me feel dizzy?
A: Changing any medication can give you symptoms. These are usually temporary and go away in a couple of days. Because you are feeling lightheaded and dizzy, be aware of changing your position from sitting to standing more slowly before you start to walk so that you do not fall. If, after several days the symptoms continue, talk with your doctor.
Q: has any one ever got liver problems from the medication tricor?
my bf’s mom was taking off tricor and now we found out that she has liver problems. Could that be from the meds.
A: This can certainly be caused by the medication. Tricor can sometimes be toxic to the liver (hepatotoxicity). Though quite rare, it is a serious side effect of Tricor (generic name fenofibrate). However, she will probably recover and be just fine. What is most likely happening is what’s called acute hepatitis (or inflammation of the liver). The liver is an incredibly resilient organ. Most of the time it can undergo a serious insult and completely recover. I hope that it was diagnosed early and that she does well and recovers quickly.
Q: is there any negative side effects with the drug combination of risperdal and tricor?
risperdal for schizophrenia and tricor for high triglycerides.
A: Please see the webpage for more details on Risperidone (generic name) Risperdal (brand name) and Fenofibrate (generic name) Tricor (brand name). No mention is made in the drug info regarding the interactivity of the drugs. Consult your doctor.
Q: Does anyone know the effect of taking Lipitor and Tricor at the same time?
One Dr. prescriped it to me but another said I was probably over doing it.
A: Lipitor (Atorvastatin) and Tricor (Fenofibrate) are both antilipid medications used to lower cholesterol in the body. They belong to different classes and therefore act by different mechanisms. This is not necessarily considered duplicate drug therapy. If they were both statins, like the Lipitor, there wouldn’t be any added effect from taking two since the number of receptors in the body is limited. However, this is not the case and it is fine to take both of these medications together. There should be good therapeutic outcomes from this therapy. It is not usually necessary to take two antilipids, but sometimes it is the best option for some patients.
Q: My boyfriend has a triglyceride level of 3,570 – put on Tricor but it’s not working too well. Any ideas?
His total cholesterol is 378; HDL is 29; Chol/HDLC ratio is 13.0
He was prescribed 500mg of Niaspan, 10mg of Zetia and don’t have the tricor here to give dosage. Mentioned a low carb diet and referred him to a nutritionist – appt. next week. He is 5′11 and 250 lbs. I haven’t found anything about triglyceride levels this high – should I recommend him to see a cardiologist? I am very worried. He is definitely also under a lot of stress due to his career.
A: As a healthcare provider I find these numbers astounding. Good Lord, he needs to change his diet and add regular exercise. Otherwise, his risk of cardiovascular event is very high. Especially if he has other risk factors like smoking or obesity, or family history of heart disease, or diabetes, or high blood pressure, etc. Didn’t his healthcare provider give him any education about how he can help himself? There’s alot of info. out there. It’s the number one cause of death in US.
Q: Atenolol, Tricor, Hyzaar 100/25, Metformin and Chantix. Are these ok to mix with each other?
The atenolol is for my heart, Tricor is for my triglycerides. Hyzaar for my blood pressure, Metformin for my diabetes and the Chantix is so I can quit smoking. I’m wondering if they have adverse reactions with one another.
A: Tell your doctor about all your other medicines including prescription and nonprescription medicines, especially if you take:
- insulin
- asthma medicines
- blood thinners

Q: what side effects do Tricor have?
My grandmother is wanting to know the side effects she is 52 and her CHOLESTEROL is preety high.
A: Tricor is used as adjunct therapy for the treatment of hypertriglyceremia. Common side effects include the following:
1) Mild GI disturbances (eg, gas, diarrhea, constipation).
2) Nausea or vomiting. Small frequent meals may help.
3) Headache.
4) Belly pain or heartburn.
5) Dizziness. Rise slowly over several minutes from sitting or lying position.
6) Severe allergic reactions can rarely occur.
7) Report skin rash or irritation, insomnia, unusual muscle pain or tremors.
Q: Are there generics for tricor and hyzaar if so what are they?
A: Unfortunately no, there is not a generic for Hyzaar. However, Hyzaar is a combination of Losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. Of the two, Hydrochlorothyazide has a generic. Losartan does not. If you want a less expensive non-brand medication, talk to your pharmacist and they can make a few recommendations.
As for Tricor, it does have a generic, called Fenofibrate.
Q: Quit Tricor. I experienced shortness of breath, cough, trouble breathing.Any idea how long before it improves?
Initially my lungs felt like they were on fire inside; since stopping Tricor, it has improved but still not 100%; still have shortness of breath; cough and some “heaviness” feeling in my chest. It’s been 2 weeks and the improvements seem to have stopped.
A: I have been on Tricor for 3 months and just within the last month have experienced trouble breathing. I go back to the doctor in a week to get my blood results. I am not going to take Tricor any more starting today. Have you seen the doctor and have your symptoms improved to 100% yet.
Q: what are the symptoms of liver damage due to the drug tricor?
A: Hi Lori
Liver function can be impaired by a toxic bowel. Most pharmaceutical drugs, if taken on a consistent basis, can also cause liver disease. If you are on such medications, be sure to have your liver function monitored regularly (every 3-6 months) by your physician, and consider other healing alternatives that might reduce or eliminate your need for medications.
What condition do you or somebody have?
Cirrhosis?
Q: what is the medication simvistatin used for, also Lopressor & Tricor?
A: All are used to lower cholesterol & triglycerides.
Q: does anyone know when we will receive money from the tricor class action lawsuit?
A: From what I understand, there was a proposed settlement in 2009, but they have until 2012 to file counterclaims and all that bulldoo-doo, which, of course, will take several more years. So, I’m figuring never, and when that comes, after the lawyers, maybe a penny on the dollar..
Q: Thank you for the Answers on Tricor. I also have HBP and high chol..and high lipids?
Before I went on Tricor – I dieted and exercised. I am still on a low fat/low salt diet and exercise 3 times a week or more. I am in my thirties and do not want to be on medication but my cardiologist is insisting. Has anyone had this issue and have they had any results getting off Tricor?
A: I had Hypercholestoralemia and was on 3 different Statins including Tricor, The others were Lipitor, and Zetia. I changed my diet to a high fiber diet and that helped me some. I was able to go off of the Zetia and Tricor, but am still on Lipitor(40mg). You do need to listen to your Cardiologist though until he/ she is satisfied with your levels
Q: I am Diabetic, taking Actos & Glucotrol, should I risk taking Tricor?
I had blood work and have elevated triglyceride levels, but my bad cholestorol level is only 208, this was a non-fasting blood test, with taking Lipitol and the drugs i mentioned above, adding Tricor seems a bit extreme to me.
A: ask your Doctor!
Q: My doctor gave me Tricor after pregnancy because my metabolism was high. does that make me loos wight?
i gained 60 ilb during my pregnancy so will that help loose wight (tricor)?
A: That med is for elevated cholesterol. It’s main purpose is to lower your “bad” cholesterol. A side effect for you might be weight loss, but good old exercise and healthy eating is what works, and breastfeeding helps immensely. However, since you’re on Tricor, I’d take a guess you’re using formula…..
